Types and Characteristics of Rental Housing

In Indonesia, the following five types of rental housing are generally easy for foreigners, including Japanese, to complete. The rent, which is the pillar of the selection criteria, varies greatly depending on the terms and conditions such as floor plan, location, facilities, and various services, as well as the contract period. What is usually called a condominium in Japan is an apartment. Serviced residences are locally referred to as serviced apartments.

  • Furnished Apartments and Condos

    In general, it is popular with Japanese expatriates and family members because of its strong security and ample shared spaces and ancillary facilities. Some properties have a relatively large number of Japanese residents, while others are multinational. It is convenient to have a restaurant and a mini supermarket on the premises of the property. Especially for single employees, satisfaction will vary depending on what kind of restaurant is in the apartment or condominium. Some properties have laundry and house cleaning services. Although high-rise apartments such as apartments are popular, it is difficult to choose if you have pets. There are some properties where pets are OK, but overall, it can be said that there are many "no pets".

  • Urban Serviced Apartment

    An apartment with urban hotel services, usually a part of a building such as a hotel, or the entire building is a rental apartment. Although the rent is high, it is popular with single employees and small families because it offers hotel-like facilities and services such as cleaning, laundry, and changing sheets and towels. Most of the properties have restaurants and shops inside the building, and there are many properties with shopping malls and large supermarkets within walking distance. Recently, the number of single employees is increasing, and short-term contracts are possible, so this type of property is becoming very popular.

  • Suburban Serviced Apartment

    The number of suburban serviced apartments has increased recently. In the past, serviced apartments were mostly urban, but now there are a lot more options. The suburban type is gaining popularity not only for cleaning, washing and dining services, but also for some properties that allow you to use a golf course in a short distance. Commuting flights are also a major factor in choosing a serviced apartment.

  • Townhouse, Complex

    It is similar to a detached house, but it is a type that secures dark lines by arranging a gate and a guard at the entrance of the residential area. There are urban type and suburban type. In addition to the pool and tennis courts, there are spacious common spaces such as parks and green spaces on the premises, which are popular. If you have pets (especially medium and large dogs), this type seems to be easier to choose.

  • Detached House

    There are many used homes for rent in the city center, and new homes for sale are scattered in the suburbs. The advantages are that the space is spacious and luxurious, and that you can keep pets. The downsides are that there are risks in terms of management and safety, that it is necessary to hire multiple employees such as maids, security guards, and gardeners, and that there are many miscellaneous things in life. In addition, the two-story house, which is said to be a cluster type in the underground, is reasonably sized and is popular with singles (often used as company housing) and accompanying people who go to industrial parks.
